Airbus warned of the problem Friday with U.S. millions of passengers in transit for the Thanksgiving holiday, <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/thanksgiving-travel-flights-after-shutdown-75b7e70a055655425ddf576a17c6dc76\">the busiest travel time in the United States<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The European planemaker said in an update Monday that the \u201cvast majority\u201d of the short-haul passenger jets in service \u201chave now received the necessary modifications.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are working with our airline customers to support the modification of less than 100 remaining aircraft to ensure they can be returned to service,\u201d Toulouse, France-based Airbus said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAirbus apologises for any challenges and delays caused to passengers and airlines by this event,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n<p>Airbus said it discovered that \u201cintense solar radiation\u201d could corrupt data that\u2019s critical to the functioning of flight controls.<\/p>\n<p>The problem is suspected of contributing to a sudden drop in <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/jetblue-flight-emergency-landing-florida-4b5d0809c2a11a197634a4b0cdf343f1\">altitude of a JetBlue plane<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/jetblue-flight-mexico-emergency-landing-florida-b9f408827aff493029cc49375fe7aa5d\">from Cancun, Mexico, to Newark, New Jersey<\/a> on Oct. 30, that injured at least 15 passengers, some of them transported to hospitals for medical care.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency required airlines to address the issue with the software update. More than 500 U.S.-registered aircraft were impacted, including jets flown by American Airlines and Delta.<\/p>\n<p>Japan\u2019s All Nippon Airways, Air India and Germany\u2019s Lufthansa were also affected.
